Have a Family New Year's Eve Blast!

Believe it or not, you CAN enjoy a New Year's Eve bash with kids - even
if you CAN'T get a sitter!

Infants and toddlers make it simple. Tuck them in, turn on the baby
monitor, and you're free to party - as long as you limit alcohol
consumption and keep the noise down.

Preschoolers and kids in the early elementary grades love getting into
the New Year's spirit.

To build excitement, announce a day or two ahead of time that you're
going to have a night-time New Year's party with pajamas on.

Then, when you go grocery shopping, you can let your child pick out a
party snack. A trip to a party store for some inexpensive noisemakers
will add to the excitement.

Or, create home-made noisemakers and decorations together. Visit
www.familycrafts.about.com/od/newyears or www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/newyear/ for ideas.

On the afternoon or early evening of December 31, sit down together
with some oversized construction paper, glue sticks, markers, crayons
and scissors and make party hats.

Now, here's the sweet part: Young children don't seem to mind at all if
midnight comes at 9 PM - or even earlier!

All you need to do is put on your party hats, pick your time, count down
from 10 and yell Happy New Year! with lots of noise and hugs and
kisses. Then enjoy your party snack.

Have older kids in the house?

You have even more fun choices as kids mature. You can:

  • Print out the words to Auld Lang Syne (times long past) from the
Internet and learn to sing it as a family. You can get the words and hear
    the tune at http://wilstar.com/xmas/auldlangsyne.htm
  • Put into a box all the ticket stubs, souvenirs and photos you've saved
from the year that's ending. Take turns pulling items out of the box and
    sharing fond memories.
  • With adult supervision, let kids make home-made party snacks.
  • Rent funny movies or old sitcoms to watch together. Maybe Abott
and Costello or The Honeymooners will tickle your family's funny
    bone.
  • Invite everyone to write down on a strip of toilet tissue events from
the year that they want to put behind them. Then ceremoniously (or
    unceremoniously!) flush away.
  • Play an old-fashioned game of charades. You might want to print
out the special charades sign language from www.answers.com/topic/charades-2
  • Invite family members to write down hopes and intentions for the
coming year on slips of paper. Each person can seal their paper in an
envelope, to be opened the following New Year's Eve if desired.
  • After your celebration, consider saving your noisemakers and
decorations to use again. Kids enjoy rediscovering their old favorites
    from year to year.

And maybe you'll rediscover the kid in you.

    Happy New Year!

Who Invented Christmas Lights?

Soon after Thomas Edison developed the light bulb that could be used for commercial use, the idea of Christmas tree lights was one of the first applications. Before the discovery of electricity candles were used as Christmas lights. The dangers of this were of major concern at the times.

As time evolved the candles had glass covers, or metal lanterns with small wicks and were hung on the trees like ornaments on Christmas trees. Think about doing that in this day and age: a recipe for a burning house.

Even with the dangers it took many years for holiday tree lights to become commercially available. It's said that the idea of these lights came from Edison's assistant, Edward Johnson: he had the bulbs made specially for his house and he displayed them his Christmas tree lights at his home on New York City.

From these humble beginnings the Christmas tree lights went through many changes before General Electric introduced them commercially. The early days of lights on Christmas trees was night lights strung together to make long stings of lights. You may have seen these in some old pictures. Those large bulbs that would shatter into a million pieces when they hit the floor.

Christmas mini lights were introduced in the mid to late 1970's. There have been many changes to the original Christmas lights but for the most part they are the same. Sales have climbed as application for these lights have changed to not just decorating the tree but also used as outdoor Christmas lights. Icicle lights are the most popular and are seen on most homes that use outdoor lighting at Christmas time. Outdoor decorative lighting has become one of the most popular types and can become somewhat of a competition among neighbors. Many people will use animated Christmas lights that can create a spectacular scene and some are even animated.

Many of the lights used now are led lights. They are long lasting and if one light goes out the whole string will still work, not like the old days, if one light was out you had to go through one by one to figure out the bad bulb. And with some holiday light strings of 100 or more, it was not a fun task. So make sure before you purchase your next set of Christmas lights that it says on the box that you don't have to replace a bad bulb to make the whole string of lights work.

Come and see some Beautiful Outdoor Christmas Decorations

Child's Toddler Mermaid Halloween Costume (2-4T)

Costume is sold as BRAND NEW and it comes in its orginal packaging.Place your order TODAY and it will ship out within 1 business day!
Customer Review: Cute costume, don't bother buying online though
For $29 this costume was the right price, but when I had to add $10 for shipping and tax, over $40, this costume was now overpriced. For $40 I would expect a very good quality costume. It wasn't terrible, but it was thin material like you would expect for a costume you'd buy at a discount store for $20. The sequins were falling off within the first minute of it being put on. We haven't worn it for an extended period for Halloween yet. The tail doesn't stick out like it does in the picture. Also, my daughter is 5 and the size 2-4T is still too big on her, it's going to have to be altered, either poorly by me or well by someone else (which adds more to the price again). I would suggest this size for a 6 year old (although my kids run small). Otherwise, the costume looks pretty much like the picture; it's a cute costume, just a little overpriced when you include the shipping.
Customer Review: disappointed
When I ordered this product, I expected to also receive the wig as it is shown with it and does not specify that it is not included. I was not happy with the extra expense of purchasing the wig separately. Susan A. Plonka

Valentine's Day approaches -- that time of year when lovers (and wannabe's) are frantic, wondering whether to splurge on the heart-shaped box of chocolates, over-priced flowers, or the predictable greeting cards. Ever wonder how the madness all got started?

The history of Valentine's Day began with the ancient Festival of Lupercalia which honored the founding of Rome. To insure the fertility of the land, the festival also celebrated the erotic love that was the special domain of Juno, the Roman goddess of love and marriage. The month February was even named in her honor -- the word comes from the Latin word "febres", meaning feverish or febrile.

Held on the hillside near the Lupercallus ("Wolf-Cave"), where Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, were raised as infants by a pack of wolves, the festivities were held on February 15 each year. Led by a pagan priest, the activities included "whipping" all the women to ensure their fertility.

Another part of the celebration involved a lottery in which the names of the unmarried females were drawn by the eligible bachelors and the couples were paired for the following year to honor the goddess Juno -- obviously a prototype of matchmaker.com.

Turn the clock forward to the third century and you find Claudius II serving as the Emperor of Rome, which by that time had seen its glory days and was now being threatened on its borders by the Goths.

Claudius had a problem on his hands. He definitely needed his army to be at full strength. He felt that married men weren't very good soldiers, given their tendency to go A.W.O.L. when it was time to harvest the crops or whenever they felt the urge for a conjugal visit.

So concerned was the Emperor that he used his authority to ban the practice of marriage. And he banned the Festival of Lupercalia as well, since it was obviously contributing to the high incidence of marriage that seemed to be destroying his militia.

For the first time, the pagan Emperor and the growing Christian church found themselves on the same side of an argument. The Church was also opposed to the pagan festival of Lupercalia, objecting to its lustfulness, and especially the practice of the lottery.

Yet it was a dangerous time to be a Christian priest. A parish priest named Valentine was part of the Christian underground and, in defiance of the Emperor's edict, continued to marry couples in secret. He was soon found out and carried off to prison.

There must have been something very "special" about Valentine. The Emperor himself supposedly took the time to visit him in prison and tried to convert him to the worship of the ancient pagan deities. He failed miserably, and Valentine was executed on the February 14, in the year 270.

Church policy in dealing with the ancient religions often included a strategy of incorporating, rather than just banning, the pagan traditions. And it proved to be an effective strategy. Many of our contemporary holiday rituals and traditions are actually based on ancient pagan celebrations.

Anxious to end the lusty Lupercalia that they saw as a "festival of the flesh", the Church was a bit more subtle than the Emperor in their approach to getting rid of it. Having a "Saint's Day" celebration for the martyred Valentine, and holding it a day earlier than the pagan festival, was a clever idea indeed.

But like so many other holidays, Valentine's Day was co-opted once more, this time by secular, commercial interests. And so today we find ourselves sending valentines to all sorts of people, even those for whom we haven't the slightest marital, romantic, or lustful feelings . . . and wonder where all the passion in our lives has gone.

The teen sensation Hannah Montana has taken America by storm. When a popular figure arrives on the scene, it is natural to want to emulate them. What better time to do that than Halloween? If you scour the internet for Hannah Montana costumes, you are sure to find your fill. If you want to make your own, then you are going to have to start with a platinum blonde wig WITH BANGS, of course! No Hannah Montana costume would be complete without it. You may also consider playing up the duality of her Disney character by getting a long brunette wig to wear on the back of your head. Then glue a picture of Miley Cyrus to the back to complete the costume experience.

Hannah Montana, or Miley Cyrus, has met no small amount of controversy this past year. You may also want to put a twist on your Hannah Montana costume by making it emphasize one of her more controversial moments, such as the exposed green bra on her MySpace page or totally naked Hannah Montana dressed in a lone bed sheet. Perhaps you might want to indicate NOT wearing a seatbelt or not having enough tickets in your Montana costume.

Another idea for a Hannah costume is a half and half costume. Put a blond wig on the left side of your head and a brunette wig on the right side. Do your make up only slightly different on each side, and arrange slightly different left right clothing styles. This can be accomplished by pinning half of a skirt on one side and maybe half of a vest on the other side or wearing long white tube socks on one side and long black thigh high socks on the other. Then you can make fun of the fact that no one seems to recognize the one from the other with that simple wardrobe change.

If you are not sure of what types of clothes to wear for your Hannah Montana costume, then Google search Hannah Montana images and look at some of her more exaggerated wardrobes. She uses some crazy accessories like scarves, vests, boots, socks, mini-skirts, sequined shirts and jackets, half shirts and jackets, belts, glasses, necklaces, etc. If you are worried about coming up with something that matches or coordinates well, DON'T! Hannah Montana doesn't. Google has about two and a half million image results to prove this.

If you are still having issues figuring it out, you can Google search "Hannah Montana Costumes" to find over NINETY THOUSAND IMAGES!!!! These ideas are typically going to help with children's Hannah Montana costumes, but, if you are interested in adult-style costumes, the ideas will apply as well.

Whatever you choose to do, have a great time. Even if you are making fun of Miley Cyrus with your Hannah Montana costume, remember that, regardless of what you or the tabloids think about her, she is a massive multi-millionaire who is having her feelings hurt all the way to the bank!

Adult Men's Wizard Robe Halloween Costume

It's that time of year, time to dress up and go out on the town as whatever creature you can fantasize. It's Halloween. This year, why should you be the only one who gets in on the fun? With all the dog clothes out there, you can try to dress your pooch up to match you.

The world of dog clothes has ballooned in recent years and now there are complete lines of Halloween costumes for your pet.

Some of the most popular designs this year include:

Pirate Pooch - This costume set includes a top and bottom combination set that looks as if your pet is wearing a pirate shirt and pants. It even comes with a captain's hat and attached cloth sword to give your dog the whole look.

Jailhouse Dog - In this get up your pup will have the well known prison stripes and even the hat that matches. The great thing about this getup is that you can easily purchase a human version of these dog clothes and look like you are cellmates.

Hula Dog - If you were thinking of a Polynesian or Hawaiian theme for your Halloween costume, why shouldn't your pet match? With a cute hula skirt and matching bikini top she can.

Princess Pooch - Many people say their little pups are princesses no matter what dog clothes they are wearing, but why not really show off your little princess in a colorful dress with matching princess hat.

Dog Dressing Tips

Be Patient

If you have never dressed your pup in clothes before, you should not wait until Halloween night to do this. Instead, start now. If you have a costume in mind, go buy it and try to put a piece of it on your pet. Usually, the first piece people try is the main costume. As soon as you get it on, your pet may start to fight you. Praise him for looking great and pet him in a way that makes it harder for him to get out of his costume. You may have to give a lot of attention, but most dogs will eventually start to equate your happiness with them wearing these items.

When you are tacking on hats and other small extra pieces of clothing, you may need even more patience. This concept makes no sense to your pooch and may take a lot of work to make them get used to it.

Add a piece at a time until you are able to put the whole costume on your pet. Then keep doing it until Halloween so they don't get out of the habit and change their mind when you are ready to go out.

Does he like it?

Some animals are not going to like the idea of being put in clothes, no matter what you try. At some point you just have to give it up. It is not worth hurting your dog or making your pet unhappy just for a few moments of frivolity. Enjoy his friendship and love on the levels he can give and give the dog clothes to someone else.

Newborn Baby Pea in The Pod Halloween Costume, 0-6 Months

Customer Review: Cute as can be
This costume is soooo cute. I bought this for my little boys first Halloween. He was a preemie and only a little over 2 months old and the costume still fit him. I would suggest putting it over pajamas though if your baby is still small. Very cute costume.
Customer Review: Really sweet-pea
The costume was absolutely precious. But the velcro peas fell off the velcro and I had to reglue them several times.

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year unless youre having problems coming up with gift ideas. Here are a few fly fishing gift ideas.

Okay, Ill be the first one to admit publicly that buying gifts for the holidays can be a pain in derriere. When it comes right down to it, how well do you know someone and how do you know what he or she likes? Buying for kids is great because you can always peak at the letter to Santa. Unfortunately, most adults have given up writing to Santa and you really dont want to read through there other letters. Fortunately, this isnt a problem if you are buying for a fly fishing enthusiast.

Fly Fishing Gifts

Fly fishing is an extremely popular sport and a good way to become one with nature. Of course, you probably dont care about any of that. Instead, you want to know what you should buy for guy or gal in your life that loves to go fly fishing. Well, here are a few ideas.

1. Flies You lucky dog, the top gift you can give a fly fisherman is a fly. Flies are the bait that go on the end of the line and are used to attract fish. Flies come in a variety of types and forms. The most basic are Nymphs and Mayflies, which mimic a type of bug that lives in rivers and is considered fine dining by bass and other fish. You can expect to pay a couple of bucks per fly, so feel free to buy more than one.

2. Local Specialty Fly Okay, this will take a bit of effort on your part. Every fishing area has a specialty fly that is known to have fish leaping out of the water before casting even begins. Since the exact fly varies from location to location, you need to stop by a local fishing store and ask for advice. Try to pick a beat up looking shop with gentlemen of an older persuasion. Theyll talk your ear off, but youll get something unique.

3. Fly Station Okay, this is going to be a more costly item. A fly station looks like a small desk and for a good reason. The fly station is where your beloved angler will sit and create his or her own flies. Part of the allure of fly fishing is tying your own flies and fly stations are built for this purpose. You can expect to pay as low as $75 and as high as anyone has the never to charge.

4. Nomad Fly Fishing Journals A little self-promotion here. Nomad Fly Fishing Journals are compact writing journals that let anglers keep notes on their efforts. They can note the fishing conditions, which flies worked the best, who the fished with and notes on what they should do differently next time. You can click the link at the bottom of this article to see the journals and expect to pay $25 for the journal and waterproof case.

If youre looking for fly fishing gifts, consider yourself lucky. The equipment tends to be inexpensive and last a very long time.

Rick Chapo is with http://www.nomadjournals.com - makers of writing journals. Fly fishing journals are great fly fishing gifts for anglers and fly fishing trips and vacations. Visit http://www.nomadjournaltrips.com for more fly fishing articles and stories.

Cute Speed Racer Kids Infant Toddler Halloween Costume

Deluxe Speed Racer Infant costumes are hot costumes!! Pick this Halloween costumes this year and you will be the talk of the party.

Everyone knows why Halloween costumes are bizarre, weird, and scary. Most of the Halloween parties have terrifically scary themes and music. This isdue to the fact of origin of an ancient Irish festival, where people wore costumes and masks, and performed rituals to ward off the evil spirits that damaged their feedstock and livestock. However, with the festival being embraced by several countries in the west, Halloween has seen numerous modifications and localized versions.

Since, the festival has evolved significantly; you don't have to dress up like Count Dracula or Frankenstein every time you visit a Halloween party. Halloween costumes are attaining innovative proportions, allowing people to invent their own themes. So, if you decide to get a tad cheeky, you can even introducean American PresidentHalloween Costumes theme, with Obama and McCain masks. The flexibility in tradition offered by Halloween has opened up opportunities not just for people celebrating it, but also for retailers who thrive during this season. From funny and cheesy to scary and gross, the variety in costumes and accessories has enhanced the reputation of the festival.

When you walk in to a Halloween party dressed up like a bunny the next time, don't be surprised if you meet a colorful parrot-man with an oversized mask. Halloween costumes are no longer as scary and grim as they used to be. You can pick just about anything from a nearby costume store to go with the party theme; animal hats, sombreros or JackSparrow's unkemptwig, the selection is always varied.

Recently, Halloween costumes found their designs being sourced from the latest movies. With superhero movies adopting a darker disposition, do not be surprised to find a Joker, Two-Face or Iron Man costume in your neighborhood Halloween Costumes store. And if you still believe in dressing up cute for a Halloween party, you can pick some of the Barbie doll costumes with blonde wigs, funky wrist accessories and pretty shoes. Rest assured you will capture all the eyes in the party.

Halloween Costumes are for everybody. You must not be surprised if you see an animal walking into a party dressed up in a wizard cap or a Kings costume. The presence of pets always spices up a Halloween party, not to mention the shrieks from those who freak out when they see there beloved pets in creepy Halloween costumes.

Halloween costumes allow adults to reach out to the kid inside them. Those who miss the carefree old days, they get an opportunity to re-live the experience for one entire Halloween night. For others, the party is a way of expression; the desire to dress up wacky and still not invite rude stares from the conservatives. It is not always that you get to play the evil guy, so get creative with your Halloween costume and not just stick to the plain old scary mask and spooky loose-fitting clothes. A star wars kimono, with the saber-torch and tiger-print shoes, is my personal favorite. What's yours?

Halloween costumes are a great way to express oneself. Apart from costumes for adults, you may even deck out your toddler with fairy costumes or the latest Hannah Montana Halloween outfits available in the market. Check out some amazing costumes at http://halloween-costumes.powerful-reviews.com/ guaranteed to make your day a festive one.

Vampire Count Halloween Costume

This Counts royal pedigree wont do him much good in the underworld. Costume includes jacket with attached faux bloody cravat and drape, and pair of fangs; 2-piece set. Polyester. Imported. (Cane, pants, shoes not included.)

Think about taking a great trip and planning it out? You will want to do these months in advance and when the time comes to take the trip, you get sick and you do not enjoy this time at all. You have to stay in the hotel room instead of going out and doing what you planned to do the entire time. It is not something that anyone wants to happen but it can occur.

The best thing to do when you are planning a trip is to stay in shape and healthy. You want to keep active with some sports, like biking or doing exercises of some kind. Doing the right planning about the area that you are going to be going to help you figure out the culture and the things that you are going to do and this will make things a lot less stressful to you. This will in return keep you in better health.

Getting the right type of information on the weather or temperature is going to help you pack clothes that you will need. You will want to make sure that you know about the water that is in the area that you are traveling. It is safe to drink. Getting the water purifying tablets can help keep your water source safe for you to drink.

We all have things that we need and want in our diet. We need to avoid the types of food that make us feel bad when we are flying. It is smart to pack a good stock of food for your trip and make sure that you have the right medications and avoid any problems that can happen with the custom checking.

Once all of the planning is done, it is important to go forward with the trip. It is good to eat a good meal before you go on your trip. You need to check in at the airport and they can take a long time. This can mean a long time before you eat. You will want to have time to walk around and get your body moving. If you get motion sick when you are traveling it is smart to take the right medication an hour before the trip starts so that the medicine starts working.

You may want to bring along water if possible. It is sometimes not safe to drink the water in some locations. You should be sure that the bottle is still closed tightly before you drink it.

Once you take the right measures, you can make this trip the best one ever.

Sexy Viking Vixen Halloween Costume (Size: 2-8)

No one ever said it was easy to select a costume for Halloween. Sometimes, selecting the right costume for a party or event can be difficult. After all, there are a whole host of costumes out there and selecting the right costume that fits your tastes as well as one that is appropriate for the event can be loaded with complexities. Now, imagine trying to select TWO Halloween adult costumes for the same event.

Two Halloween adult costumes? Why on earth would anyone worry about two costumes? Well, if you are attending an event with a spouse or a date you would want your costumes to gel together. Seriously, Frankenstein showing up with a Cheerleader would just look...odd. So, it is a better option to stick with a pair of costumes that make a nice mix. Now, this may seem like a difficult plan of action but it really isn't. Many excellent costume manufacturers had the forethought and creativity to develop costumes designed for couples. These costumes come in all varieties. So, no matter what your sensibilities are in regards to selecting a costume there is a dual pair of these costumes for you and your partner.

As previously mentioned, the main reason that couples costumes are so popular is because they create a sense of cohesion between the Halloween adult costumes. While Frankenstein and a Cheerleader do not make a great mix, Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein obviously does. The same can be said for a Cheerleader and a Football Player. Other costumes of this nature include Tarzan and Jane, Dracula and his Bride and Fred and Wilma Flintstone! Yes, the minute you turn your costume selection into a "tag team" event you will make it more memorable. Remember, if you are going to an event as a couple you should keep up the appearances of being a couple.

Also, you want to have as much fun together with the Halloween adult costumes as possible. Many of the couples Halloween costumes are humorous in nature. This is why you see costumes of a King of Hearts and a Queen of Hearts or, believe it or not a Washer and Dryer (!) costume tandem. Really, there is no better feeling that cracking other people up and these costumes have the ability to invoke this very reaction. (In a good way, that is!) These types of costumes are a lot of fun to wear and they can create a number of great memories for those couples who opt to wear them to a party or similar event.

Here is probably the most surprising aspect of couples Halloween adult costumes. Your fellow Halloween traveler does not even need to be a human being! Yes, there is such a thing as Halloween costumes for your pets! So, if you are bringing your loyal dog to a Halloween party you can actually dress it up! Believe it or not, there are dog Halloween costumes that come in the form of superheroes, sports figures, maids, and even 1950's era bikers! So, there is no need to leave your loving pooch home. Who knows? If there is a prize for best costume your dog may very well win it!

Green Pixie Halloween Costume

She'll dazzle everyone in a gown and wings that sparkle like pixie dust. Gown is a leotard with attached tutu and faux petals along the neckline. Polyester, nylon. Imported.
Customer Review: good but not great
This is the same green fairy costume that Chasing Fireflies sells. In both pictures they show the larger size, so know that for the smaller size (2/4) it is not quite as impressive. The skirt isn't as full and the wings aren't as large. I don't think a four year old could fit in the 2/4 since it's a perfect fit for my petite three-year old. I like it, but think that it isn't as high quality as I had hoped for the price.
Customer Review: Excellent
Excellent product and very nice. Anyone show my little daughter wearing this costume said "Super". It's really a very nice costume

You have just a little money and don't know what to get that significant other? Look no further than the kitchen. One of the easiest, most thoughtful and, yes, romantic gifts you can give to that special someone in your life is a home-cooked dinner of all their favorite foods.

What holidays are perfect for the home cooked meal gift?

Mother's Day is the best day to show mom you love her by serving her breakfast in bed. Moms love the opportunity to stay in bed while the kids make breakfast or dinner as long as they clean up the kitchen of course.

Father's Day is a good bet with dad, but instead of serving him breakfast in bed, make him a cup of coffee and bring it to him in bed. That evening, cook up his favorite meal, whether it is steak, chicken, pork chops or whatever.

Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas are all holidays that work best if you are going to cook a big dinner for the whole family. Often, by only spending $100 to $200 on food, you can save much more by giving the gift of a feast for your family and friends. You don't have to go all out, but do enough so that those who came to dinner don't think you went cheap on the dinner so you wouldn't have to buy gifts.

Valentine's Day is the perfect holiday to cook a romantic meal for that significant other. Serve him or her breakfast in bed to start, complete with a rose in a small vase. One special way to say I love you with breakfast is to spell out the actual words with pancakes. As for dinner, a candlelight dinner with flowers, chocolates and their favorite food is a sure bet for a memorable Valentine's Day.

Labor Day is the day to give the gift of barbecuing to family and friends. It is the end of the summer and the beginning of fall. The kids are going back to school, so you can give a gift to everyone by cooking up a bunch of steaks, hamburgers and hotdogs on the barbecue, making you the hit of the neighborhood.

All of these holidays are great opportunities for you to test out your cooking ability and make some special meals for some special people. One word of warning, don't make cooking your only gift, otherwise people will start feeling you are going cheap on them and soon enough, you may have no one to cook for.

Kiss The Chef Adult Costume

Includes: Chef hat, dress and cuffs. Spatula and shoes not included.

Is there any party more delightful than sweet 16? If youre stuck for 16th birthday party ideas, then you need to sit back and start counting! Its easy enough if you remember that a sweet 16 party is all about that magic number. How many sweet sixteen balloons do you buy? Sixteen, of course!

Turning 16 can be the perfect time for an all-girls party or for a co-ed gathering. No matter what you choose to do, talk with your sweet 16 birthday girl first for her ideas. She might be hoping for a good old fashioned slumber party or something a bit more elegant that announces she is approaching adulthood.

Sweet Party Ideas

Ideas for an informal 16th party can take advantage of the classic teen foods like pizza, ice cream sundaes, sub sandwiches, nachos, and lots of soda. When thinking about a more sweet party, consider sixteen delicate and tiny birthday cakes surrounding one floral arrangement. Another idea is to keep the guest list to sixteen friends.

Need more ideas?

How about a party where the guest of honor opens sixteen mystery boxes to find one final gift tucked inside? Or a cluster of small items like sixteen favorite candy bars, sixteen colors of nail polish, sixteen gift certificates to favorite fast food restaurants or sixteen movie tickets?

What about invitations for your sweet 16 party?

Invitations to your party could be presented on candy bar wrappers for the chocolate fiend. For mystery, you could send out a small key enclosed in each of the sixteen invitations. Once your guests arrive, let them try their luck at opening a small chest which contains sixteen special prizes. Keep in mind that often the most creative and appreciated items are the least expensive!

Halloween is coming; if you've got kids then you've probably received some suggestions on what they want to be this year. For boys the odds are on Batman, possibly The Joker, or even The Incredible Hulk, choose from any superhero you want. For the girls it's a princess or Tinkerbell or even a 50's sock hop girl. Now that we've got the kids taken care of, how about the adults? If you don't have any kids then you can plan to dress up and attend a Halloween party where you just might be remembered for your great costume.

Some of the best Halloween costumes are of people you know, everybody knows who Marilyn Monroe is, and it takes a leggy blonde with full lips to pull off that costume. You could dress up like a Star Wars character or even a nun. Most uniforms become costumes on Halloween, but what would it be like to dress as a member of KISS. You've got four to choose from, The Demon, The Starchild, The Spaceman and The Catman.

A lot of guys want to go for The Demon, but the guy with the longest tongue usually wins that bet. No matter, there are still three characters to choose from. If you plan to dress up this Halloween as a KISS character you'll need to find a place that has the make-up kit. If you know of a face painter you can always go that route. It's best to start looking in the summertime for somebody like that; you can save yourself some hassle if you have somebody who knows what they are doing.

Dressing up like The Demon will get you noticed all night long, it doesn't matter how many Halloween parties you go to, you're sure to be complimented. If you've got four guy friends who want to complete the band then you could have a great time hanging out together as KISS. Since Gene Simmons's show "Family Jewels" has been airing on A&E he's been getting a lot more attention so dressing up like The Demon will have people pointing at you all night long.

Shop around and find a good wig that compliments your Gene Simmons costume. You'll also need a rock star girlfriend, or wife to be by your side the whole time. If you've got some leather and high boots you could really look the part. The best thing about dressing up as a member of KISS is that their outfits on stage look like Halloween costumes anyway. Have fun this Halloween and dress up like a member of KISS.

Toddler Plush White Rabbit Halloween Costume (2-4T)

Costume is sold as BRAND NEW and it comes in its orginal packaging.Place your order TODAY and it will ship out within 1 business day!
Customer Review: Should be marked 4T
Love the costume but I bought it for a 2 year old. We only could use the hat. Hoping we can use the whole thing next year. Quality is very good for low price.
Customer Review: Good quality costume
The costume arrived very speedily, and is very snuggly and well-made. The only detail I would have liked knowing about beforehand is that it's a two-piece costume (the head is detached from the bodysuit), so it looks not quite as seamless as in the photo. But otherwise it's terrific; I'd buy it again.

Proper Christmas ornament storage will keep your beautiful ornaments unmarred for next year and decades to follow. Antique glass ornaments are quite fragile. It's surprising that some have remained unbroken for a century! Modern ornaments, especially the ones made of treated glass, are stronger -- but they are still susceptible to damage. Proper storage and handling will preserve these beautiful ornaments for future generations to enjoy.

Handling Glass Ornaments

Glass decorations must be handled carefully and with due caution. When they are removed from storage, work on a padded surface as you remove their wrappings. Place a padded tree skirt under the tree to soften the impact, in case a glass ball falls from the tree.

An old-fashioned Christmas tree fence is useful to keep young children and pets away from the ornaments. If you don't have a fence, hang the delicate glass balls near the top of the tree, and put unbreakable spheres on low branches. It is helpful to spray a pet repellent under the tree.

If your ornaments are displayed for over two weeks, position them away from sunlight. Direct daylight can cause the paint to fade.

Cleaning

The colors painted on antique ornaments were generally favorite family recipes. These were not very durable. Age has made them yet more fragile. Most are water-soluble, so they should never be washed. Avoid glass cleaners and other chemical solutions as well. Some of the modern lacquers are also water-based and will last longer if the same precautions are followed.

Gently flick glass ornaments with a feather duster to clean them. Ostrich-feather dusters are especially effective.

Storage

Strong Christmas ornament storage boxes with close-fitting lids are needed to store ornaments. Many manufacturers produce cardboard or plastic containers. Some are specifically designed to store ornaments and have appropriately-sized compartments. Plastic boxes are sturdier than cardboard boxes, but the completely airless space they create is not necessarily suitable for valuable or antique ornaments. Special acid-free cardboard containers are the best choice for these valuables.

Each piece should be individually wrapped before being placed in a Christmas ornament storage container. Use acid-free tissue paper, or acid-free paper towels (the kind sold as microwavable). Newspaper is not a good choice; the chemicals in the print -- and in the paper too -- can harm the finish on the decoration.

Place bubble wrap or crumpled paper towels in the bottom of the Christmas ornament storage container before you put any wrapped decorations in it. If the box doesn't include sections, use extra tissue between decorations to provide more protection. Add a last layer on top of the ornaments before fastening the lid.

Place some silica gel desiccant in every container to remove dampness. You can buy it at craft stores.

For more security, store large glass decorations separately from little ones, and glass ornaments apart from wooden or metal ones. Mark all your Christmas ornament storage boxes plainly, so that you won't have to unpack all of them if you want a particular ornament later in the year.

Even with all this padding, ornaments can still be injured by extreme temperatures and/or humidity levels. These elements can cause stress fractures eventually. Unheated attics and cellars are poor locations for Christmas ornament storage. Keep ornaments in a closet instead.

You only need is some time and some thought to make your ornaments undamaged. Good Christmas ornament storage isn't hard, and it will preserve these fragile treasures for generations.

Here's a Halloween art project to do with your toddler or preschooler. It's very easy and it looks great around the house.

Here's what you need:

-8.5" x 11" black construction paper

-white tempera or kids' washable paint

-a plastic bin

-4 marbles

-scissors

-stapler

Your child can help with cutting and gluing, depending on her skill level.

Here's what to do:

Using a sheet of black construction paper, cut out the shape of a spider web. An easy way to do this is to cut out a large circle, then put a dot in the N, S, E, and W positions. Put one more dot between each of these dots so that you end up with eight equally spaced marks along the border. Now cut sagging loops between each of the marks and you have the basic shape of a spider web

Now, place your construction paper cut-out in the bin. Put a small line of white tempera paint at various places within the bin.

Place the 4 marbles in the bin.

Allow your child to tilt the bin in different directions. This will cause the marbles to roll through the paint and make white lines across the black construction paper. Now you have a spider web with white silky lines.

Allow the spider web to dry for at least 30 minutes.

For a spider, simply cut a small circle out of the black construction paper. Cut the legs out and staple or glue them on. For eyes, glue on white circles with a black dot not exactly in the middle. The off center pupil gives the spider a kid-friendly silly look. Glue or staple the spider to the spider web.

Repeat the steps for more spider webs to decorate the house!

Are you planning a holiday bash this year? Make sure your guests save the date with festive holiday party invitations. Here are some tips to help you choose the perfect invites for your holiday happening.

Thanksgiving

It may not be traditional to send invitations to a Thanksgiving dinner, but why not set a new trend? Your family is probably tired of doing the same thing year after year, and the holiday could use a jump-start. Let family and friends know that this year will be different. Arouse their interest with a thanksgiving party invitation. Encourage them to dress up as if they lived on Plymouth Plantation. You don't have to just eat turkey and watch football, unless that's all you want to do! Some great ideas for motifs on Thanksgiving holiday invitations are pinecones, pumpkins, leaves, or a cornucopia. When guests receive a card in the mail, they'll know that this Thanksgiving is going to be special.

Christmas

Let's face it. Christmas is the biggest holiday of the year, and if you want to make sure your friends and family don't miss yours you'd better send out invitations. Christmas Party Invitations should be sent out at least two months in advance as those December calendars fill up fast. The more interesting the invitation, the more likely your guests are to choose your function over other options. Go with traditional Christmas symbols such as holly, snowflakes, mistletoe, evergreen trees, or a manger scene. If you want a more contemporary look, choose invitations with geometric designs or colorful stripes. For a party that requires a fancy dress code, make sure to send out elegant invitations to set the right tone for your event. Don't expect people to commit to a party during this busy season by word of mouth alone. Send holiday party invitations, and send them early.

New Year's Eve

If Christmas can claim to be the biggest holiday of the year, New Year's Eve is the biggest party night of the year. Whereas Christmas parties can generally be held at any date in December, New Year's parties only have one date to shoot for. If you're planning a New Year's Eve bash, keep in mind that most of your proposed guest list will have several options of how to spend the last night of the year. You have to make your party stand out if you want them to actually show up instead of going somewhere else. Colorful and classy invitations will show guests that this is a serious party and not just a casual hang out night. Choose invitations with pictures of confetti, champagne glasses or cocktail glasses. If you plan to serve martinis, order lime green invitations in the shape of martini glasses. Your guests will feel more inclined to drop by your party if a cute holiday party invitation has been hanging on their fridge.

So give your guests something not only to remind them of your upcoming holiday event, but instead to beckon them to come and enjoy the holidays with you.

With the upcoming holiday, the fun and games can sometimes be overwhelming, yet at the same time exhilarating. For medical professionals though, this time of year means that there will be an increase in burn injury cases. In fact, according to national reports most fireworks accidents in the United States occur around the Fourth of July season.

Even with the smaller, less intense fireworks devices, operators can be severely injured if they are not careful. Sparklers can reach temperatures of up to 1800 degrees and burn dangerously close to the hand, the longer it is lit.

There are over 10,000 reported injuries per year and 40% of those injuries occur with children between the ages of 10-14 years. During this time in their lives, they are much more likely to take unnecessary risk, sometimes without knowing that the risk is there. Here are a few tips from the National Council on Fireworks Safety to help prevent your Fourth of July holiday from being a disaster.

1. Always have water handy

No matter how big or small the firework, it is always a good idea to have water handy. If a fire breaks out, you will be able to get rid of it before it gets out of hand. It is also get for putting out the smoldering pieces of a previously launched firework.

2. Do not alter or combine fireworks

Many people get the bright idea that perhaps if they combined fireworks, the combination would make for a much more spectacular explosion. And while this might very well be the case, it can lead to dangerous mixtures and larger-than-expected explosions.

3. Never relight a dud

Relighting fireworks that have already been lit is just a bad idea. The individual lighting the dud most likely doesn't know how much powder is still left in the device or how explosive it is.

4. Alcohol and Fireworks do not mix

Alcohol and Fireworks, aside from alcohol and driving, is probably one of the worst combinations for celebration. Studies show that alcohol slows reaction time and overall response to external stimulus. It increases confidence and perceived capability. This combination equals more risk taking, with a slower response time in case something bad happens.

Be sure to contact your local area fire marshal for more ways to stay save during the summer holiday. Avoid using fireworks that do not have warning labels on them as they may be dangerous. If you would like more information regarding burn injuries, visit www.burnvictiminjurylawyers.com.

Kid's Peter Pan Halloween Costume Hat

This fall you can decorate your front porch and become the envy of the neighborhood! With just a little patience and a little practice you can learn how to paint a pumpkin that will stand out among the normal carved jack-o-lanterns! Holiday pumpkin painting can be more than a halloween idea. Since there is no need to carve out the pumpkin, it can be repainted for a Thanksgiving theme and make a nice addition to all of your holiday crafts.

Halloween pumpkins have long been a favorite for young and old alike. I remember spending hour after hour, scooping seeds and pulp from the pumpkin and then carefully carving scary facial features on my planned masterpiece. The problem was, I always seemed to slip up and ruin the whole pumpkin! The result was a big mess and no jack-o-lantern.

When our grandchildren were around 3 years old we made a trip to a local pumpkin patch looking for some new halloween ideas. We found just what we wanted in a display of bright and fancy painted pumpkins! Faces of every imaginable contortion were there and the pumpkins were still intact! No carving! No mess! We looked at the price tags and guess what? No way! I could not believe what they were asking for even the smallest gourds that had been painted in an autumn decor. I jokingly told my wife I had missed my calling. I should have been a pumpkin painter!

Much to my horror she took me at my word and hustled off to some hardware store and brought home some paint and some brushes and a couple of pumpkins and said, "Get started!" I first went to the library and was disappointed to find that there is very little information or instruction on the topic of pumpkin painting.

I went online and found one little ebook that not only was full of patterns and ideas, it had full instructions of exactly what type of paint to use. After reading through the little book I had my first li'l punkin complete in about an hour. Once I had enough to make a nice display on the front porch I proudly retired to my recliner for a little relaxing tv. Within 30 minutes the front doorbell was ringing with strangers who had driven by the house, noticed the painted pumpkins and were asking how much I would charge to paint them a couple of the little darlings.

My holiday pumpkin painting has become a very profitable hobby for me. From mid September through late November the requests are hard to keep up with. Maybe I was wrong. I don't think I missed my calling at all!

Want to learn how to paint a pumpkin? Why not be the envy of your neighborhood with some great holiday artwork for decorations? Check out Holiday Pumpkin Painting and get started today!

Substitute Bettie Adult Costume

Includes: Top with attached skirt, corsett, boot tops, glasses, and ruler. Gloves, wig, and shoes not included.
Customer Review: Very Sexy Halloween Costume
I wanted something sexy for halloween, but nothing that was sluty looking. This was perfect in my opinion for a little something sexy. I got a medium and it was very tight, so if you like tight get the size you would get anyways, but if you want it a little looser, then get the next size up. I was also confused by what they meant by "Boot tops" So once I got the costume in the mail and saw what they meant by that, it is just something you put over your boots to make them look longer and all that. But they are not actually boots just to clear that up to those who may not know what they are. I was sad that the costume did not come with gloves, but it did come with eveything else in the picture, I just find that strange. Other then that, this costume is amazing and very fun.

Halloween costumes are available in stores and online in an endless collection, ranging from horridly frightening to amusingly fanciful. Modern day Halloween in America is more a festival of community gathering and neighborly get-togethers. Halloween costumes are the most favored opportunity to wear different dresses. Halloween Costumes are all about being creative and having fun. Teens will find a wide variety of Halloween costumes at Costumes shops including soldiers, dead prom queens, gothic slayers, super heroes, and much more.

Halloween costumes are enjoyed by adults and children alike and have been a part of the Halloween celebration for many years. Halloween costumes are so fun. I love it when the kids come around on Halloween night. Kids colonial costumes are a year round favorite and the colonial girl costume and native american boy costume are 2 of the biggest kids costume sellers. Kids superhero costumes such as the batman costumes, spiderman costumes and fantastic four costumes are always a favorite. Kids costumes should also fit well and not drag, which could cause a child to trip and fall. For full-body costumes, check to see if the costume provides for detachable masks or headwear so that the child can take them off from time to time for fresh air.

Kids Halloween Costumes are by far and away the cutest each year with children dressed as flowers, dogs, cats, pumpkins and more. Adult Halloween costumes have come a long way recently with halloween masks that look real, sexy halloween costumes that catch the eye, and halloween props that look authentic. Adult costumes tend to fall into several categories that remain popular year after year. Their continuing popularity is due partly to their timelessness and partly to their sense of fun. Adult Halloween-goers can be seen in costume at parties, costume contests, masquerade balls, themed nightclubs, and yes, even Trick or Treating. Popular Halloween costumes such as classic vampires, ghosts and other scary characters are still going strong.

But Halloween night is also a very sexy holiday. Popular games played on the holiday include "dunking" for apples (i.e., retrieving an apple from a bucket of water using only one's mouth). In places, the game has been replaced (because of fears of contracting saliva-borne illnesses in the water) by standing over the bowl holding a fork in one's mouth, and releasing it in an attempt to skewer an apple using only gravity. Popular tv and movie characters, especially super heroes now dominate the scene, thanks in large part to the marketing efforts of the entertainment industry and costume manufacturers. Dressing up in a fanatic costume is one of the most popular ways to celebrate Halloween . Halloween costumes are often required at parties around this time of year, and may also be allowed to be worn to work or school on Halloween day.

Adult's Purple Grapes Halloween Costume

Christmas lights are the most difficult to pick through after a years worth of storage. Save your self the hassle by taking time to wrap the Christmas lights in an efficient manner now, before boxing everything back up! Keep in mind that Christmas lights, especially the less durable indoor ones, are really only meant for 90 days of usage. Try to replace your Christmas lights at least every third season. The most inexpensive way to do this is to buy a set or two of Christmas lights at each post-season sale

There are a few techniques for successful Christmas light storage. One idea is to purchase boxes specifically manufactured for Christmas light storage. These generally look like file boxes that come with many flat surfaced pieces to wrap each string around. Perfect for avoiding tangled messes, and you can organize the way you put the strings in each slot, whether by color or size or indoor/outdoor usage.

But then again, if you want to be creative and economical, you can use items already in your household for Christmas light storage. If you have plastic bags, cardboard boxes, or empty wrapping paper tubes, then go ahead and make use of them to carefully store your Christmas lights.

Here are some suggestions that have proved most useful for Christmas light storage:

Wrap each string of lights individually, and fasten in several places with bread strings. You can store each string in its own plastic bag, and keep them all together in a cardboard box. Label the box Christmas lights and if you end up filling more than one box, write 1 of 2 or however many there are. This is a huge help, especially if you have a lot of outdoor Christmas lights!

Another idea is to use empty wrapping paper tubes. Cut a small slit in each end of the tube, you then thread one end of a set of lights through a slit. Wrap the lights along the tube until you reach the end, and thread that end through the other slit. This is a very safe and convenient way to keep the string from tangling.

You can use this same concept with a square of cardboard. This may be a shape easier for you to store, also. Just make sure both ends of the string are secure in the two slits, so your Christmas lights dont end up unraveling and getting tangled anyway!
